Scroll down to read about Amelia and the armor costumes and helmets that Pearl helped to make for her so she could feel like she was visiting The Ancient Times.
From time to time, Amelia would imagine herself wearing armor from the Ancient Times. She felt it would benefit her in her role as protector of the flock and defender of The Backyard Garden. She also imagined that armor could disguise her as a different chicken. Pearl loved helping with Amelia’s costumes.
With her Ancient Armor, Amelia looked quite threatening. But if you look closer, you will see that this is all offensive armor with nothing to be used to hurt a predator. Amelia hoped that any predator would feel too threatened to take a closer look at her armor.
Just like the warriors of old, Amelia found her armor to be heavy and awkward for movement. She soon abandoned it for a lighter-weight version. With it, she substituted a gray cloth in parts but kept metal in vulnerable places where she could be injured. Her appearance was both mysterious and threatening depending on how she arranged the gray cloth drape around her head and neck. The darker and lighter bars that marked her feathers resembled both the sunlight falling on real armor and the shadows it would cast.Amelia had been concerned that Pearl would be offended by the changes, but Pearl actually liked them. It was Pearl who had noticed how the changes made Amelia look curiously mysterious and curiously threatening. This was undoubtedly the effect that Pearl had been working towards.
Amelia felt that the extra weight was fine on one particular ancient armor suit Pearl had designed for her. It was the one with not only metal but also a jewel to protect her heart. Amelia knew how easily her heart could be hurt. This was not the heart that pumped blood, but the heart that pumped God’s love.As long as Amelia’s heart was circulating God’s love in for her and back out into the Garden world, she would be truly alive.
Of all the armor that Pearl designed, and we made for Amelia, this was everyone’s favorite. It had a contrast of different metals and a contrasting green feather decoration that emphasized the redness of her comb. Together, these two design elements made her appear fierce and dangerous.
Emily wanted to try on one of Amelia’s Ancient Armor costumes. Pearl suggested that she try on this one, and we were all amazed by how much larger and stronger our sweet little Emily appeared. She was definitely a chicken that every predator would want to avoid and none would want to attack.
Amelia had admired The Raven with Blue Eyes and how she had led her Squadron of Crows to fend off enemies. The Ravens learned their tactic from The Ancient Warriors. It was clear to The Raven with Blue Eyes that Amelia possessed the fierce determinate to prevail against any enemy.
The larger ravens and crows often disguised themselves as members of a human army. As expected, their army appear much larger in number. Rather than the light-weight, stiff cloth they wore instead of armor, they appeared to wear what they called “magical“ armor as they slashed the air with their beaks.
Like the Maccabees that The Songbirds had told her about, The Raven learned to use her own cleverness to fearlessly face the Enemy Army. She was easily identified by her appearance, and while the enemy watched and studied her silly actions, they totally missed the Squadron of Black Crows that would attack from the rear. Some opponents had even tried to make a record of The Raven’s tactics to be better prepared, but the mighty hand of God will always defend anyone who desires to worship Him with their whole heart.
